6 of the Best New AR-15 Accessories by Magpul

I’ve always been a huge fan of Magpul.  I’ve operated with several stocks, grips, slings, etc…  I believe their research and design team goes above and beyond on 99% of their projects.  I also think it is very cool that they have a Mil-Spec line and a Commercial line.  That way the “Average Joe” that just wants a Tacti-cool Carbine, but still a reliable one, can still afford to build the AR-15 he wants.  From their BUIS to slings to stocks, their Mil-Spec line is fully capable in all Defense and Protection climates.  Here are 6 of my favorite AR-15 accessories from Magpul.

Magpul-ACS-Best-New-AR-15-Stock-2012Up first is the Magpul ACS (Adaptable Cabine/Storage) Mil-Spec Adjustable Stock. If you run an AR-15 with Battery Powered Optics and Lights, this is a must have stock upgrade. This stock features an adjustable Length of Pull from 11.75″ to 15.00″ and is held secure and wiggle free with Magpul’s patented Friction Lock design. You are able to store a total of 6 CR123 or 4 AA batteries in 2 water-resistant battery storage compartments. There is also another storage compartment at the rear of the stock to hold other back-up accessories. Another bonus from the battery storage is that they change the standard stock curvature and actually create a much tighter and more comfortable cheek weld. The stock features a soft rubber butt pad to provide a very secure shouldered weapon and is compatible with the ASAP Magpul Sling Attachment. They offer a Commercial and Mil-Spec version of this stock. The primary difference is the receiver size and stock tube size you are adapting to. I will provide a link to both so you can choose which one is right for you.

Magpul-Enhanced-Trigger-Guard-Review-AR-15Another easy to install upgrade for your AR-15 is the Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard. This is the “Mil-Spec” version, in my opinion, since it is made from Aluminum rather than polymer. This allows for easier entry to your trigger, especially when wearing gloves. Rather than having the flat edgy trigger plate, Magpul gave their Enhanced Trigger Guard a more ergonomic and softer angled access to the trigger. Don’t be a cheap-skate, pick up the Aluminum version for 10 dollars more. You’ll be glad you did. They also include all mounting hardware.
Don’t snag when reaching for your trigger, get Magpul it’s much bigger *terrible poetic jingle, I know* Magpul Industries Enhanced Trig Grd Alum

Magpul-AFG2-Angled-Foregrip-Review-for-AR-15Forget about VFG’s (Vertical Fore-grips). They are news of the past since Magpul came out with the AFG2 Angled Foregrip. If you want accuracy, weapon control, and less hand fatigue then check this bad boy out. I believe that the Magpul Angled Foregrip is one of the most ingenious and practical AR-15 accessories built. Laying your hand at 180 degrees doesn’t feel right and a fist at 90 degrees causes too much fatigue, but 45 degrees is just right. The angled foregrip will without a doubt increase your accuracy and control of your AR-15. The natural angle of your hand’s grip when positioned if you were holding a rifle’s for-end is just about 45 degrees. Go on, check it out, reach your hand out there…. See? Spend more time in action and on the range. It is also much less snag prone on your gear and other operational hazards. Magpul’s AFG2 will mount to any standard 1913-Picatinny & NATO STANAG 4694 rail systems.

Most-Reliable-AR-15-Sling-Magpul-MS3Magpul-ASAP-Ambidextrous-Sling-Attachment-Point-AR-15-SlingMagpul-RSA-Review-AR-15-2-point-slingHere are the next three. What good is your rifle without a sling? Well I guess it makes a good walking cane after about mile 3. You never want to lose grip of your primary weapon, or any weapon for that matter. You also don’t want some archaic Vietnam-era sling. Magpul has your solution(s). The Magpul MS3 has been my favorite sling for some time now. It has easy to use, but very secure attachments. Reducing or Increasing Tension is easy. And converting from a single point to 2 point sling is simple. I prefer a single point for having the weapon at the ready, entering and exiting vehicles, and when firing from behind cover. But you can easily convert to a 2 point sling when needing to have a more secured weapon while performing other tasks and perhaps longer range engagements. The Magpul MS3 sling is made from superior grade Nylon Webbing, Case Hardened Steel, and Advanced Polymer. In order to make your AR-15 Sling compatible, I recommend picking up the Magpul ASAP (Ambidextrous Sling Attachment Point) for Single Point and the Magpul RSA (Rail Sling Attachment) for 2 point. The ASAP replaces the standard AR-15 End-plate mounting just behind the rear of lower receiver, and the RSA attaches to any 1913 Picatinny rail. Magpul claims the RSA will withstand 300 lbs of pressure! I’m sure it will as long as you don’t attach it to a junk

Review of Battlecomp AKBC AK 47 Compensator: The Battlecomp AKBC is one of the best new AK 47 Accessories

After combing around gun boards and the rest of the internet, I was able to find one of the best new accessories for the AK 47. I have reviewed and owned several AK 47 flash hiders and compensators: Vortex Flash Hider by Smith, J-tac, bird cage, krink style, AAC Blackout, etc… My favorite up until now has been the Vortex style by Smith. After reviewing the new Battlecomp AKBC by Battlecomp and Rifle Dynamics, I now have a new favorite. It is the priciest of the bunch, but extremely worthwhile. This compensator dissipates the blast shock-wave in several directions. By allowing fast dispersion of energy perpendicularly from the muzzle, you lower felt recoil and barrel rise. The sound-wave is also stifled greatly due to the multi-directional ports. If you are a serious shooter or just an AK 47 enthusiast, make sure to treat yourself to this little darling. You will probably send me a Christmas card = )

Check out the Battlecomp AKBC here

Here are a few tech-specs from Battlecomp website:

“The AKBC is threaded 14×1 LH, for 7.62×39 caliber. Specifically designed for the AK-47 enthusiast. Made of 17-4 PH bar stock stainless steel and pre-notched for the 12 o’clock pin. Spring washers included. Available in black oxide only.”

7 Parts to build the Best Tactical Shotgun from Remington 870 platform

There is a huge debate over the best pump action shotgun. Whether it be the Winchester 1300, Remington 870, or the Mossberg 500. My personal favorite is the Remington 870. I have fired them all and I just prefer the good ole 870. My first pellet rifle had the safety in the same position and shouldered up just the same. Not only that, but Remington makes a very consistent gun when it comes to all aspects. The 870, 1100, and 1187 have a very similar design. Other than the action, they are the same gun. When it comes to breaching and home defense I prefer the reliability of a Pump Action. One reason is that there are no o-rings to change or gas ports to fail. Here are 7 must have parts to build the Ultimate Defense Shotgun.

Mesa-Tactical-Adjustable-Remington-870-StockFirst up, get rid of that old 14″ Length of Pull factory stock. We are kicking down doors and slicing bad guy pie, we need to keep a small profile. I opted for the Mesa Tactical Adjustable stock. It has a great adapter and features an M4 style adjustable stock. They even offer a set-up that reduces 70% of felt recoil. I personally would rather know when I let the lead go, so I went the inexpensive route. Get it here Mesa Tactical Leo Telescoping Stock Kit For Remington 870

Best-Tactical-Remington-870-forend-Hogue-OvermouldedNext up is the Forend. This invaluable piece of the shotgun is not critiqued nearly enough. Not only does the forend keep your target in your sights, it also feeds the next “behavior modification pill” to your action. Anyone that reads my articles knows I am a big fan of Hogue grips. Mainly because of the “grip”. Hogue mastered the “weapon is an extension of your body” feeling. I run Hogue on my AR 15, AK 47, 10/22, and Remington 870. Main reason is this: Super glue your hand to your weapon. Need I say more? The rubber polymer they use baffles even Einstein. They have somehow managed to make it feel like you were born with a lengthy black extremity that sends wads and webs of lead downrange. Hogue Stock Remington 870 Overrubber Forend

Number 3 is replacing the old bead sight. One of my favorite, and many other Law Enforcement Agencies are the XS Sights’ Ghost Ring Sights. XS Sights has a proven track record and builds very high quality products. The over sized rear aperture makes target acquisition extremely quick and they are dead on accurate. I prefer to use the larger front stripe post along with the largest aperture rear ring. The idea and reason for the name “Ghost Ring” is that you are supposed to be focusing on your front sight which in turn makes the rear ring appear hazy. This is extremely useful in tactical situations and makes follow up shots much faster and deadly. This is not a bolt on sight and will require a gunsmith to drill and tap mounting holes. So toss another 25 to 50 bucks on top of the price, but in my opinion it’s money well spent. Get it here Rem.870-1100-1187 W/Stripe Ghost

Best-Remington-870-Magazine-ExtensionNumber 4. Adding magazine capacity. We need more ammo and less reloading. Adding a magazine tube extension will gain us another 2-4 rounds depending on which style you go with. If you are running an 18″ barrell, the extension from Remington will add another 2 rounds *aka lifesavers. It is a rather simple install depending on which 870 platform you start with. Some 870′s will have two dimples inside the stock tube and will not allow the magazine follower to back past them. If this is the case with your 870, all that is needed is to drill down and file away these dimples. Just makes sure to thoroughly clean tube after procedure. Tactical-Flashlight-Mount-Remington-870One the 5th day of Remington 870 Christmas I mounted an Elzetta Flashlight mount. I prefer to not use a forend fitted for a flashlight as I feel the barrel shadows the light’s stream right at your window of aim. It also is moving each time you chamber a new round and makes for crappy follow up shot or new target acquiring. Having a rigid mount to the side of your barrel is a much better option in my experience. You can keep a full stream of light on your target even while racking a new round. I went with the inexpensive Elzetta as it fits several different profiles of tac lights and fits VERY snug. Here’s where you can get a deal Elzetta Flashlight Mount for Tactical Shotgun, Remington 870, Mossberg 500, Quick Release Thumbscrew model

Streamlight-88850-Polytac-Tactical-Flashlight6. As far as lighting goes, I went with the Streamlight 88850 Polytac. It uses the new C4 style LED and puts out 120 lumens that appears almost 3 times brighter than previous style LEDs. Plus, it was only 35 dollars and can handle as much abuse as an 80 dollar tactical light. Check it out here Streamlight 88850 Polytac LED Flashlight with Lithium Batteries, Black

GG&G-Best-Remington-870-Sling-MountLast thing to add is a forward point for your sling to attach. GG&G makes an indestructible QD Sling Swivel that mounts to the front of your stock magazine tube. You will never replace this part. It’s the little things that are so important. GG&G Remington 870 Front QD Sling Attachment with Heavy Duty Quick Detach Sling Swivel

2 Great New Ruger 10/22 Accessories

Ruger-BX-25-Magazine-ReviewWhile charging through Cyber Space this morning, with Bayonet clenched between teeth and the Romy at my side, I found two great new upgrades for the Ruger 10/22.  I try to save my visitors money and disappointment by weeding out all the BS and Craptastic overpriced junk gun accessories.  Now you can save the money you’ve been wasting on 15 dollar 25 and 30 round magazines that don’t feed and don’t load properly.  Ruger has finally answered our cries for help.  We all know that if you want a reliably feeding 10/22 magazine, nothing compares to the stock rotary style 10/22 mag.  Ruger has released the new BX-25, 25 round magazine.  It features steel feed lips, not the junk plastic ones everyone else has.  It also has the feed angle at the crucial 30 degrees in which they intended the rounds to cycle into the action.  The BX-25 also comes apart with only 2 screws to make cleaning and rebuilding easy.  It also has an anti-cant follower and constant force spring.  The new BX-25 is the best 10/22 magazine on the market and feeds like buzzards on road kill.  Make sure to pick up a couple and never look back at the old smoky clear plastic junk-mags. Get yours here BX-25 10/22 25RD MAGAZINE

My second great find of the day is a reasonably priced drop-in trigger assembly from Hornet Customs. Ask an enthusiast of the Ruger 10/22 what is the best drop in trigger and they will tell you Volquartzen. I agree, it is an amazing product, but it’s just not affordable for the average guy wanting to build a fun and reliable 10/22. So I saved you the time of reading review after review of Volquartzen’s 300 dollar piece and found Hornet Customs. The Trigger I sprang for is the Hornet Custom BRTR. Here are the advantages in Hornet Custom’s own words “The Hornet Trigger Guard Assembly includes these special replacement parts:

Hand polished and honed Hammer for a light, smooth, trigger release
Lightweight Trigger Return Spring and Custom Radius Trigger Return Plunger polished for smoothness
Hornet Custom Sear and Disconnector honed for minimal positive engagement consistent with safety.
Automatic Bolt Release eliminating two-hand operation – just pull back and release
New Ruger Red Extended Magazine Release – push forward and the magazine easily drops away – no more convoluted pinching to operate the release.
All parts are fitted, lubricated, and tested.
Since 2001, more than 4,000 satisfied trigger sales, plus an eBay feedback rating of 8,772 and 100% satisfaction as of 9/23/09. eBay seller ID: hornet224″

Now read about the Volquartzen and it’s virtually the same enhancements. They are a great company that adheres to product quality, reliability, and function. Get your Hornet Custom’s BRTR here:  Hornet Custom “BRTR” Trigger Assembly for Ruger 10/22
